Neighbourhood policing within Surrey Police is delivered by Safer Neighbourhood Teams in each of the 11 districts and boroughs of the County. Each neighbourhood within the districts and boroughs is served by a dedicated team of officers and staff.
Neighbourhood Teams provide community engagement, targeted foot patrols and collaborative problem solving to tackle the issues that cause the greatest harm in our communities. Teams are made of sergeants, police officers and PCSOs, led by the Borough Commander, with further support provided by other team members - with specialisms in youth engagement, licensing and crime prevention.
Shoplifting and retail crime.
Increased theft from shops and concerns regarding threats/violence towards retail staff.
Issued 21 August 2026
There continues to be a marked reduction in reported offences in the area. Covert and overt 'hotspot' patrols continue to be carried out by the local policing team. More recently this has resulted in multiple arrests of two separate, prolific shop lifting offenders.
In addition, one of our Neighbourhood Specialist Officers has recently secured a charge and prison remand for eight shoplifting offences committed by the same perpetrator.
The local team continue to engage with the local business community, increasing confidence and partnership working whilst relentlessly and robustly bringing repeat offenders to justice using anti-social behaviour legislation where appropriate.
Ongoing policing operations continue in the town.
