Positive Action refers to measures under the Equality Act 2010 that promote equality of opportunity. Structures in our society means that not everybody starts from the same position. Positive Action can support those with a protected characteristic and create a level playing field for all applicants.
Achieving a representative police service is vital for reasons of legitimacy and public confidence. Positive Action refers to the steps an employer can take to support underrepresented groups, such as providing advice and guidance where required.
Under the Equality Act, Positive Action can be used when there is underrepresentation. We are able to offer a variety of initiatives such as:
Offering guidance which is aimed at supporting applicants from underrepresented groups through the recruitment process (prior to completing an application)
Hosting regular recruitment information events
Including statements on job adverts to encourage applications
